Marronnages

Description

This collection of poems spans over several decades. Travelling over five continents, the poet has reacted to places, people and situations through poetry. Sometimes, events have been a source of inspiration. At other times, insomnia has filled the emptiness with words and rimes. Unaware that these poems may one day be published, the author has refrained from concerns about varying styles. The editor has welcomed the book within its own collection (Poetes des cinq continents) There is one poem about the ‘religious’ experience of attending for the first time a football match to see Manchester United playing on home ground. Another poem pays tribute to Le Morne, a UNESCO heritage location in Mauritius, known for the resistance of maroons (run-away slaves) during the slavery era. The book may also be read as an invitation to travel. To maroon away from routine and boredom.
