The Plaza is one of two historic theatres in Mauritius. Visiting stars like Jacques Brel or stage productions from London would perform there. Films from Hollywood and Bollywood would attract audiences twice a day. Local talents would display their paintings, their singing skills and stage abilities at the Plaza. There is also a public library, a reception hall, an attractive surrounding park… For decades this heritage compound has suffered from neglect and has been deserted. Hence the lurking ghost… How does such a cultural complex impact upon the formative years of a young man and a budding artist. This is what the author does in a collection of essays. Poetry and humour make it pleasant reading, especially for young people aged 14 to 19 years old.
